Alabama's state senate tied a string to its annual appropriations for the University of Alabama and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn). It ordered the two schools to play each other at football next year or do without state funds. There has been no Alabama-Auburn football game since a free-for-all after a game 40 years ago.
