As every listener knows, quiz show M.C.s have to have hearts as soft as toothpaste because the game is to get a winner out of the audience and not make the trick too hard. Last week, the M.C. of Break the Bank got a break. First, he heard that the little old lady and her husband were celebrating their 41st wedding anniversary.; then he heard that they were schoolteachers. The M.C. tossed them a question that any schoolteacher could answer: “Who was the famous father of a Supreme Court Justice, and author of Over the Tea Cups?” “Oliver Wendell Holmes,” said Mrs. Albert Fowler, and won $7,440, the largest cash prize ever given away on the air.
