In Normandy, a group of U.S. soldiers, dog-tired after a day of marching, fighting, marching again, flopped down in a roadside ditch for a cat nap, landed on six Nazi soldiers already asleep. Grumbled one doughboy, after the Nazis were captured: "Damn it, a G.I.'s work is never done."
