Russia last week recalled her Ambassador to Japan, professorial, burly Constantin Smetanin—"to report."

Japan's Ambassador to Russia, dog-faced Yoshitsugu Tatekawa, resigned— because of ill health.

The Moscow radio broadcast that Japanese property in the Soviet Union had been placed under an alien-property commissar—but the Kremlin promptly denied this.

The Russo-Japanese fisheries agreement, which expired in December, had not yet been renewed-but both Moscow and Tokyo expected it would be renewed any day.

According to both Moscow and Tokyo, Russo-Japanese relations last week were—"normal."
