World Battlefronts: Casualties

A Navy communiqué announced the first U.S. warship casualties of the Sicilian campaign: the destroyer Maddox and the minesweeper Sentinel, lost on July 10-11 during landing operations.

Total announced U.S. warship losses since Pearl Harbor: 110.
