In Singapore, on his tour of Asia, Governor Thomas E. Dewey expressed a view of the Korean war that was diametrically opposed to the MacArthur thesis of "utter uselessness." Said Dewey: "the vast armies of Red China have taken a terrific beating," and Communism has suffered its worst setback since 1945.
