The hotel operators and storekeepers of Italy listened to the Pope with a special joy last week. In his semi-annual radio address to the world's Catholics, Pius XII announced officially that 1950 would be a Holy Year—the 25th in the church's history**—during which Catholics who visit Rome to "venerate the tombs of the Apostles and the See of Peter" earn special indulgences for their sins.
