¶At Forest Hills, Bobby Riggs defeated Don Budge for the national pro tennis championship, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, 4-6, 6-3.

¶At Salt Lake City, Negro track stars set two new world's records: Illinois' Herb McKenley ran the quarter-mile in :46.2, and Baldwin-Wallace's Harrison Dillard, the 220-yard low hurdles in :22.3. Each was two-tenths of a second better than the old record.
