At Littleboro, Lancashire, the countryside tells a century of cotton history. There are the old cottages, where women used to hand out woven cloth to merchants on horseback in return for more yarn to weave into more cloth. There is the 100-year-old red brick mill, which Cuthbert Barwick Clegg's grandfather built to replace cottage industry, and where he prospered.
