The news was bad for Canada, worse for the U.S. Like a modern Joseph, the Dominion Bureau of Statistics warned: Canada’s once-plentiful hoard of feed grain (oats and barley) had been “severely trimmed” by heavy domestic demand, exports to the U.S. Next year there will probably be little enough for Canadian livestock, let alone the U.S., which needs all the Canadian feed it can get.
