MEXICO: Rioters' Report Card

Mexico City's bus owners counted the damage from senseless student riots (TIME, Sept. 8) and stated their position: "The metropolitan bus industry is now bankrupt." In two days of wholesale vandalism the rioters did an estimated $160,000 damage. They stole some 340 buses, left more than 200 in need of major repairs. There were 65 buses with carburetors missing, 50 with batteries gone, 40 with missing seats, 112 with the upholstery ripped to shreds.
