Last week in Grand Rapids, Mrs. Alfred Medendorp heard that her husband, a lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Army, had been killed, along with another U.S. officer, when the Chinese Communists bombarded Quemoy Island, five miles from the Chinese mainland.
