Douglas Aircraft announced a new civilian plane, the DC-7. The four-engined commercial transport will have a top speed of more than 400 m.p.h. and a cruising speed of more than 360 m.p.h., 50 m.p.h. faster than the DC-6. Eight feet longer than the DC-6, the new plane will have wider aisles and seats and carry 60 to 95 passengers, v. 46 to 70 in the DC-6. American Airlines has 25 DC-75 on order, will put the first planes in service in 1954.
