The Defense Department last week reported 1,097 more U.S. casualties in Korea, bringing the announced total to 49,132. The new list, dated Feb. 21, is the largest in five weeks, reflecting the heavier fighting in the current U.N. offensive. The breakdown:
DEAD 8,346
WOUNDED 31,377
MISSING 9,409
The Pentagon’s latest estimate of enemy casualties: 624,000 dead, wounded and captured, including 206,000 Chinese and 418.000 North Koreans.
