Jimmy Petrillo was afraid of being thrown and hog-tied by the Taft-Hartley Act. As a result the radio networks found that Jimmy was just about the nicest fellow who had ever picked up a fountain pen. He gave up his plan of making their key stations hire more musicians. He agreed not to ask for a pay increase. He decided, after three years of stubborn resistance, to let union musicians appear on television programs. When he signed a new three-year contract last week, NBC's Vice President Frank Mullen couldn't resist giving him a present—a shiny, new gold trumpet.
