Chosen this week were the winners of the Peabody Awards, U.S. radio’s own coveted “Oscars.”* The judges, mostly educators and journalists, headed by the Atlantic Monthly’s Editor Edward Weeks, handed major honors to:
Raymond Gram Swing (for news commentary); Fred Allen and Cavalcade of America (each for dramatic entertainment); The Telephone Hour (musical entertainment) ; Cincinnati’s WLW (news reporting); Human Adventure (educational program); and Los Angeles Station KFI’s Philharmonic Young Artists’ Series (program for youth).
