The Press: Fidelity to Truth

Pope Pius XII, who seldom speaks directly to the U.S. press, last week received ten U.S. correspondents and told them:

¶"The worthy success of your profession depends on one essential fact: your fidelity to truth in what you write and speak.

¶"The world shudders today to contemplate the mass of misfortunes that has overwhelmed it. May it not be traced back to the flood of error and false moral standards let loose by the written and spoken word of proud, irreligious men?"
