He was tired of being a college president. Peter H. Odegard had found the presidency of Oregon's prestigious little Reed College full of "multiple frustations." He made 200 speeches in one year, spent most of his time raising money. Said Odegard last week: "The isolation of a college executive from creative work is something I don't think people appreciate. The demands of his job allow him very little time for intellectual growth. He performs very much the function of the Gadarene swine.*
