In Des Moines, and all through Iowa, farmers reluctantly decided that the heavy rains (a regular flood) had washed away the chances of a full corn crop. In Alliance, Neb., Editor Ben Sallows of the Times-Herald griped good-naturedly about prices: "Life must be worth living. The cost has doubled, and still everybody hangs on."
