Sport: Back at the Wicket

The U.S. took it mighty hard when Lou Gehrig's diamond career was ended by rare, fatal amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. So did Australia, shortly afterward, when tissue-swelling fibrositis crippled its sports hero, Cricketer Don Bradman. Bradman sadly put away his bats, fought to shake off his affliction, slowly succeeded. Last week, at 37, he again stepped to the wicket, captaining South Australia v. Queensland, batted placements between fieldsmen with oldtime perfection.
