The U.S. armed services totted up their losses among high-rankers last week, found that World War II, with its emphasis on air fighting, is no respecter of generals, admirals. In the 22 months since Pearl Harbor the U.S. Army has lost 30 general officers—killed, captured or missing in action. Three Navy admirals have been killed in action, an admiral and a commodore killed in air crashes; two admirals have died at sea.
