The Senate also:
¶ Passed and sent to the House the La Follette bill which would: 1) pare down the 33 overlapping Senate committees to 15; 2) provide each Congressman with an administrative assistant; 3) raise Congressional pay from $10,000 to $15,000; 4) provide pensions for Congressmen retiring after 62.
The House:
¶ For the third time in four weeks forced adjournment on Wednesday—calendar day—to prevent the FEPC bill from coming to the floor.
¶ Passed the first major river-and-harbors bill since before the war, authorizing 50 navigation, flood control and hydroelectric power projects at a cost of $900 million.
¶ Passed and sent to the Senate a revision of servicemen’s insurance regulations which would permit lump-sum payments to beneficiaries.
