The end of ODT’s travel ban assured sport fans of a World Series, bowl football games and winter horse racing. Some other toddling steps toward normalcy:
¶ Proprietor Eddie Rickenbacker announced that his Indianapolis speedway would resume auto racing next Memorial Day, predicted a new wrinkle: jet cars.
¶ Fight Czar Mike Jacobs set a tentative June date for a Joe Louis-Billy Conn fight, talked big about a transatlantic boxing circuit, with bouts in Manhattan on Mondays and Fridays, in London on Wednesdays.
¶ The International Olympic Committee scheduled a London meeting this week to talk 1948 games. Likely site: London’s Wembley Stadium.
