For Canada’s delegate on the U.N. Security Council (TIME, Jan. 5), the government finally picked one of the best-known figures in Canada: General Andrew George Latta McNaughton, 60. His qualifications : overseas commander of Canadian troops (1939-43), Defense Minister (1944-45), Canada’s No. 1 atomic energy expert and representative on the U.N. Commission on Atomic Energy, a job which he will keep.
