TIME
To Saskatchewan’s CCF the Morse by-election was important. The riding was a typical cross-section of prairie voters, and CCF now had a two-year record (TIME, June 24) to be judged by. If CCF candidate James Gibson won, it would be a bright green light to Canada’s only Socialist government.
To the CCF the results were eminently satisfactory. Socialist Gibson, who looks like Eire’s Eamon de Valera, won with 3,105 votes. Liberal Herbert Wiebe trailed him with 2,406 votes. Progressive-Conservative Rupert Ramsay with 1,094.
