V for Vandyke

The War Production Board ordered razor blades cut to one a week for each shaver. Out cropped a lush, thickety growth of feature stories and beard pictures; the Smith Brothers sprouted back into the news; radio comics combed their files frantically for beard jokes, from B for beavers, to T for tuft. But the full text of WPB's order proved the best joke of all. As late as 1940 one blade a week per man was all the nation used anyway.
