In Oberammergau, in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, plans for next spring's revival of the world-famed Passion Play had hit a snag. Stars Alois Lang (the Christus), Anni Rutz (the Virgin Mary) and Willy Bierling (St. John) had been refused American Military Government permission to play their respective roles and were being held in Allied prisons as active members of the Nazi party. But one leading character, Hans Zwink, a regular member of the anti-Nazi movement, was ready to go on stage. His role: Judas.
