The Japs were still trying on Guadalcanal. U.S. forces beat off another attempt to land troops at night. With the loss of one American cruiser, nine enemy ships were sunk: two large destroyers or light cruisers, four destroyers, two transports, one cargo ship. Not a Jap landed.
Last week’s attack was not a major attempt. Since mid-November’s U.S. victory, the Japs have changed their tactics. They come often, in small groups. This compels Admiral Halsey to keep a task force in the area, but has not yet chased U.S. forces off Guadalcanal.
