Cinema: Settled

To any hit-hoping cinema, running into an injunction is as painful and prohibitive as tripping over a bat on the way to first. Fortnight ago Jules W. Arndt Stein (Nicky Arnstein), the husband who filled Fannie Brice’s heart when she first sang the torch song My Man in 1920, sued for an injunction (and $250,000 damages) against the Twentieth Century-Fox cinema Rose of Washington Square, a take-off on Nicky’s & Fannie’s lives (TIME, June 5). This week, beating out the injunction by a nose, the studio attorneys got together with Nicky, settled his claim out of court for a reported $25,000.
