Transport: Junked Jalopies

In Indiana, over one weekend fortnight ago, eight persons were killed and 40 injured in highway accidents. Declaring that some of these crashes were due to use of unsafe cars, automobile dealers in Indidnapolis concocted a stunt which would both emphasize safety and draw attention to themselves. They announced they would burn $75,000 worth of used cars at the fair grounds because the roads would be safer without them. At 8 p. m. Thursday evening last week the huge pile of jalopies was touched off while firemen and some 25,000 others looked on....
