ITALY: Subway!

Ancient though it is, Rome got around to building a subway for the first time only last week when Benito Mussolini swung a pickax with such vigor that he cracked a paving stone in the Piazza Bocca della Verità. Five thousand Fascist workmen are to build the four miles of subway in four years, by that time will probably be as proud as the overpropagandized Red toilers in Moscow who through Intourist interpreters ask travelers: "Is it not wonderful that the Soviet form of State has enabled us to build a subway?...
