Months ago Secretary of the Interior Harold Le Clair Ickes decided that his department deserved a better name and he more authority. Hence a bill appeared in Congress to rename the Department of the Interior the Department of Conservation. Last week the Senate passed and sent to the House a bill creating a Department of Conservation. Yet Secretary Ickes was anything but happy.
