BELGIUM: Piteous Plot

A plot of Swiss soil 9 ft. by 10 ft. on which died Astrid, Queen of the Belgians, was purchased last week by His Majesty Leopold III, still cruelly torn by pangs of grief and remorse. In his castle at Brussels the King continues to reflect that Astrid, to whom he was wholly devoted, would be at his side today if an instant's inattention had not sent the car he was driving off the road and crashing into a tree (TIME, Sept. 9).
