¶Alvan Macauley, president of Packard Motor Car Co., was in Manhattan last week, wanted to go home. The weather was stifling. He called up American Airways which had lately opened New York-Chicago service via Detroit with 15-passenger Curtiss Condors. What was that? . . . All space taken. Why, that couldn't be possible; well, how about tomorrow? . .. Sorry, all booked up for four days ahead. . . . What? Well, let me know if somebody cancels his reservation. What's that? . . . Sorry, Mr. Macauley, we have a waiting list...
