There is only one thing more startling than a bolt from the blue, and that is a shock from the earth—to have the earth heave and quiver. An earth shock, of quite respectable intensity, came thus suddenly to startle the northeastern U. S. It was not quite 9:30 in the evening (Eastern Time) when a series of quivers began.
