During the War Jack Dempsey got into trouble by posing as a riveter in a shipyard. The labor manager of Sun Ship-building Co. dressed him in overalls, snapped his picture to use in a campaign to recruit labor. When the public saw the photograph it concluded that Boxer Dempsey had really become a riveter to escape the draft.
