A shabby woman crept into Washington’s Animal Rescue League one warm evening last week and dumped a squirming bundle in front of the attendant. The woman said: “Here’s a sick cat! I want it killed!”
The attendant: “Why, this is a baby!”
The woman, her voice rising: “You put animals out of their misery. Why not my baby?”
While the disconcerted attendant telephoned for police, the woman snatched her child, fled.
