Three pickpockets went on business to a Jewish synagog in Manhattan. Pickpocket Levine (Jewish) warned Pickpockets Alternaro and Presco (Italians) to buy Jewish Bibles, which they did. The rabbi caused their arrest. “How did you suspect them,” asked the Magistrate of the rabbi. “Alternaro and Presco took off their hats in the synagog,” replied the rabbi.
