Foreign News: Protests

¶At Rouen, the Archbishop of that name presided over a meeting of Catholics at which General de Castelnau and the Marquis de la Ferronaye spoke. The meeting passed a vote of censure on the Government for sponsoring the suppression of the French Embassy to the Vatican (TIME, June 30, Sept. 8, Mar. 30).

¶At Vannes, a procession of 25,000 Catholics paraded the streets in silence. In the Fair Ground, Cardinal Charost addressed them; and a resolution was subsequently passed "to organize for the defense of religious liberty."
