It became known that the "July List " for the Legion of Honor contained the name of Mme. Gerard distinguished poetess and authoress. For some obscure reason, which neither the Minister of Fine Arts nor Mme. will divulge, the poetess despatched a refusal of the honor in verse.
Literary circles in Paris are much aroused by the event; for it is rarely that the much-sought honor is refused.
