W. H. Ponsford, a Victoria (Australia) cricketer, broke a world's record of 27 years' standing with an individual batsman's score of 429 in a match against the Tasmania eleven. In the same match the Victorian team raised a world's mark which has stood 22 years when they scored a total of 1,059, every man on the team making double figures.
