Gates, Jobs Speak Out About the Future

From TIME Digital: In dueling keynote speeches, the CEOs of Microsoft and Apple lay out the shape of things to come

  • Yesterday Microsoft CEO Bill Gates and Apple CEO (yes, CEO — more on that later) Steve Jobs delivered two separate but equally interesting speeches about the future of their two companies. Jobs focused on the look and feel of the Mac of the future, while Gates talked about convergence in the wired home of the future.

    Speaking at MacWorld Expo 2000 in San Francisco, Jobs set the record straight on one burning question: After two and a half years, he is no longer the "interim CEO" at Apple. His title is now officially "iCEO" of Apple — that "i," says Jobs, is to "remind myself what is important — the Internet." He will also keep his old responsibilities at Pixar, the computer animation studio that produced the "Toy Story" movies. MORE >>
