The botched health care rollout Nancy Gibbs’ widely shared Dec. 2 cover story prompted headlines on the Huffington Post (“the broken pill [cover image] grasps perfectly how some Americans are feeling about website glitches and insurance policy cancellations”) and other news outlets–as well as passionate defenses of the President. “Every ‘flaw’ (with the exception of the website) is something that happens every year at this time,” wrote Cena Buchannon of Dayton, Ohio. Physician Manoj Jain of Memphis commented that insurance under Obamacare “provides more benefits, such as preventive care, with less restrictions, such as for pre-existing conditions.” “At the very least,” wrote Marianne Pontillo of Philadelphia, “give the President credit for having the guts to take on the health insurance industry.”

What boys want Rosalind Wiseman’s deeply reported story on boys’ difficulties with self-esteem and adapting to current societal expectations struck a chord with readers. An alarmed Philip Barnett of Scottsdale, Ariz., saw danger in some of Wiseman’s subjects who witnessed abuses of girls and did not intervene: “Let’s forget about his self-esteem for a minute and hope that he doesn’t have access to any guns.” On Twitter the piece drew high praise for its nuance: “Incredible article whether you are raising teenagers now or in the near future,” (@BruinBrawn90); “A must read. Trust me,” (@DerekPoludniak); “This is for all of us who can’t figure out why men are so ‘sensitive.'” (@HatttonDiana).

Candy Crush addiction “I just got out of Angry Bird rehab and now this?” said steeltownmilt on TIME.com one of many readers to weigh in on Eliana Dockterman’s piece on the science behind the addictive mobile game. “This is why I don’t play Candy Crush,” wrote @Joshkidd513. “Jeez people … read a book for Criminey’s sake!!!!” commented gfrdoc on TIME.com Yet educator Jo Beth Jimerson found reason for optimism: “I’m sure there are tons of school applications for this info!”
