Bringing Home the Bacon

$142.4 million. That was the final price, far above the $85 million presale estimate, for Francis Bacon's Three Views of Lucian Freud, a 1969 triptych portrait of his friend and fellow painter. It now stands as the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction, breaking the previous record, set in May 2012, when a version of Edvard Munch's The Scream sold for $119.9 million.
