Admiral Mike Mullen

As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen often raised eyebrows, not because anything he said was wrong but because he had the guts to say it publicly. Mullen retired Sept. 30 after 43 years of service in the Navy. After he took the helm in 2007, Mullen skillfully handed off two wars from the President who started them to a new President eager to wrap them up.
