When you’re a candle king like Harry Slatkin, CEO of Slatkin & Co., Hong Kong beckons several times a year. “You can get things made there that you just cannot get anywhere else,” he says. “Like Japan, Hong Kong is very forward thinking in terms of fashion, accessories and home products.” So he logs a lot of miles traveling there to check up on his home-fragrance line for Limited Brands. On a recent trip, he was finalizing items for his upcoming Limited home collection of fragrances, candles, potpourris, trays and tabletop accessories. After shopping, he makes sure to sample the city’s best restaurants. Here’s a peek inside his address book:

RESTAURANTS

Fook Lam Moon means “Blessings come to your home.” It is the place to go for authentic Cantonese food. Menu highlights include deep-fried crispy chicken and stuffed duck, emperor style. 35-45 Johnston Road, Wanchai

Hutong is great for nouvelle northern Chinese food, but it’s hard to get a reservation. 1 Peking Road, Kowloon

Felix is the glam spot for a drink before dinner. It was designed by Philippe Starck and has the requisite men’s bathroom with amazing views. The Peninsula Hotel, Salisbury Road, Kowloon

Kee Club is chic, private and very hard to get into. It’s the jet set’s place to dine. 32 Wellington Street, Central

Cipriani is the same as the others around the world, with all the delicious Italian comfort foods we have grown used to. It’s below the famed private China Club, so you can go to Cipriani for dinner and afterward have a late, fun night at the China Club. Old Bank of China Building, Bank Street, Central

HOTELS

The InterContinental is my favorite because it sits on the harbor and the views are spectacular. Every day at about 7 p.m., there is a light show across the water on the mainland side. Have drinks in the cocktail area with the floor-to-ceiling windows, or watch the lights from your room if you’re lucky enough to get one with a harbor view. SHOPS

Ascot Chang is the best place for custom-made shirts. I took in a shirt I had had made for me in Paris, and the shop copied it for only $60—amazing.
