SUNSHINE AND SURGERY

Summer may be best for surgeries. Why? High levels of vitamin D (from food, supplements or sunshine) can improve recovery times. Summer lung-cancer patients had four times the survival rate of those with winter surgeries and low vitamin D.

YOUNG, PREGNANT AND CANCER FREE

Women who give birth before age 20 halve their risk of developing breast cancer, according to a new study. A hormone produced during pregnancy seems to provide lifetime protection. --By Coco Masters
