At Chicago, last week, Dr. William S. Sadler reported to the Gorgas Memorial Institute confirmation of "the hitherto only suspected fact" that, of all white peoples, those of the U. S. have the highest deathrate between the ages of 40 and 50. The causes: heart disease, apoplexy, Bright's disease, high blood pressure. Dr. Sadler grouped these conditions under the title "Amer icanitis"resultant from "the hurry, bustle and incessant drive of the American temperament." The number of U. S. citizens annually hurrying, bustling, driving themselves to death was set at 240,000.
