I think I'm a bit more suited for those roles than being a housewife or girlfriend.

You also played Zoey Bartlet on The West Wing. There's been a lot of attention these days on the First Daughters.

It ties into the whole fascination with celebrities' personal lives in general--what are they buying at the grocery store, what shoes did they wear to the gym. I had tremendous respect for Jodie Foster at the Golden Globes. She said what everyone was thinking, that it didn't use to be like this.

Let's go back to Peggy, who has a new gig in Season 6.

I can't even say where I'm working or what I'm doing. But I will say I'm very happy with where she's going. She hasn't quite found who she is yet. That's been interesting navigating, making sure she's still Peggy. She'll never be Don. She'll always be herself.

Must be difficult not being around Don and having a different boss to answer to.

That was a very nice trick question. I applaud you. But I can neither confirm nor deny.

Did you take the role knowing that Peggy would be this pivotal feminist character?

I didn't have any aspirations beyond being Don's secretary. Like all of us on the show--you should see us, it's kind of pathetic--we're just so happy to be in it.

BRUSHWORK

Hyperrealistic painter Raphaella Spence photographs each of her subjects and then uses the pictures to re-create the image on canvas. The results are stunningly detailed creations, like her Venetian landscape Grand Canal, above, currently on display at the Bernarducci Meisel Gallery in New York City. Spence's work is also part of an exhibit on photo-realism at the Kunsthalle Tübingen in Germany until March 10.

FAR OUT

Mona Lisa's Moon Shot

The Mona Lisa's famed smile can usually be found at the Louvre. But NASA beamed a digital copy of it nearly 240,000 miles from Earth to a spacecraft orbiting the moon, the first time a laser has been used to communicate over planetary distances.

RUMOR HAS IT

$550,000

Amount that was reportedly offered to--and rejected by--Lindsay Lohan to appear on an upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. A rep for the ABC show told TMZ that it does not comment on casting

4 THINGS YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS WEEK

1. The Cheesecake Factory skimping.

At 3,120 calories, the chain's Bistro Shrimp Pasta tops a list of "extreme" dishes compiled by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

2. A feline shortage in Vermont.

Almost half of all households own cats--a higher proportion than any other state.

3. People spending too little time on Facebook.

The social network added a voice-call feature to its app.

4. People spending too much time watching American Idol.

Ratings for its season premiere were down roughly 18% compared with last year's.
