That approach allows us to experience the show's 1960s as if we were flipping through a family photo album. In the premiere, a character searches Don's Rolodex, and the names from the past--remember Freddy Rumsen? Duck Phillips?--bring home what a detailed world Mad Men has created and how much it's grown. That's how people experience change: accidentally, in retrospect, as you look up one moment and suddenly realize that there you are, in Tomorrowland.
